I gave the chickens some grapes, strawberries & sugar snap peas. I guess they don't like peas

Jack and Cocoa |
Last night Hailey and her friend had 2 of the new chicks out and were cuddling with them. Well the one that was left behind was not happy. So we can take all three out or just one. I think it is mostly Stella, I think she will be the leader and was worried when the rest of her flock was gone....Oh No, I hope she's not a Rooster
I did my best with the pictures, chicks don't hold still for very long.
Had a chipmunk get into the coop and eat up some of the feed the other night, so now I bring the food in at night, no way am I feeding the chipmunks. As soon as I get back to Menards I'll get one of those metal trash cans and use a bungee cord to keep it closed, that should keep the food safe.
I bought some cups that attach to the inside of the run and put some grapes in them for the chickens, they went nuts for them. They are such quick learners, as soon as I come out they wait and keep checking the cups to see what kind of goodies I have for them, so cute. I also bought one of those suet holders and put some apples in it, so fun to watch them "Box" with it. At first they were not to good at getting the apples out, but now they are pros.
I almost forgot....crickets I bought crickets from the pet store for them, they gobbled them up right away!
Time to go play with my chickens...
It looks so cute on the coop. I still need to paint the trim :) |

2 and 3 Day Old Pictures
Cute little sign I bought to hang on the hen house |
It's amazing how quickly they grow. The day I brought them home the two day old chicks were a little wobbly. They are moving around much better now. Their little wing feathers are starting to poke out too. They have names now, Cocoa, Cookie and Stella. Sorry Mike when you get your own chickens you can name them ;-)

New Chicks Finally Arrived
The chicks I ordered finally arrived and they brought a friend!
The one in the front and the middle one are the Araucanas and the black one in the back is a Plymouth Barred Rock. The Araucanas hatched yesterday April 25th and the Barred Rock hatched around April 16th. I'm going to do my best to post pictures daily of the Araucanas since I know there exact hatch day. This was something I was looking for when I got my first chicks. "Hmmm I wonder what they will look like when they are "x" days old" I will share my pictures with Backyard Chickens I have learned so much from this site. It's a wonderful community of backyard chicken folk.
I need some help naming them. I am almost positive the brown one in the middle will be named Cocoa. I'm not sure about the other two, my ideas are Maddie, Lucy, Stella, Zoe & Penny. If I leave it up to Mike they will be named Buffalo, Spicy and Blue.
So sleepy Here's some better pictures |
Chicken Fun
Chill'n on their new roost |
I made the girls a new roost out of some scrapes I had left from the run......They LOVE it! They really do not like the roosts in the hen house :-( I think I will have to replace them with ones like this one.
Chicken Play Pen |
My Chicken Play Pen doesn't work as well as I had hoped. You see, Chickens are birds and they can and do fly....Duh moment. One of them made it to the top of the plastic fence and her weight brought it down, she was just about to escape when I seen her. My original plan for the play pen was to use "U" shaped wire to make a tunnel. I just may have to rethink the tunnel thing.
